Your savings will always vary, depending on what type of heating system you have currently. For example if you have a very old oil fired boiler or old electric heaters, your savings will be very large because the old heating system you have is very inefficient and on top of that, it uses expensive oil or electricity. On the flip side of that, if you have a nearly new natural gas condensing boiler you’re savings won't be as good because your boiler is already quite efficient. But even then you could be using 75% less energy and doing less harm to the environment.

Is it doing to be disruptive if you have to put in new pipes?

First of all, we will definitely need to run new pipes from the heat pump to the airing cupboard or wherever your hot water cylinder is sited in the house. You will need much larger pipes to carry the heat due to the way heat pumps work. If you already have a piped heating system then the disruption should be minimal, but you will probably need new bigger radiators so a bit of surface pipework will be necessary.

If you have electric heaters then the disruption will be slightly more because we will need to run new pipes throughout the house. Wherever we can, we will run them under floor boards. But in properties with concrete floors there cab be a lot of surface run pipework. You can always paint the pipes once the work is done to make them more aesthetically pleasing as long as you use approved paint. And because the pipes run at a lower temperature the paint will last longer and won't discolour.

The most efficient way of running the heat pump is just to leave the heat pump on continuously at a comfortable temperature through autumn, winter and some of spring. Just leave it working steadily in the back ground, ticking over the same way you leave your fridge freezer working to a set temperature. You can then adjust the individual thermostats in each room as you see fit for your personal needs. For example you might want bedroom radiators on setting 3 but have your lounge radiators on setting 5 or 6.

You'll need bigger radiators because the heat pump will generate 55 degree heat whereas your current boiler can reach temperatures up to 75 degrees. We have to make the radiators larger to ensure you have enough heat in the room to heat it efficiently.
