Fault Assessment Form Fault assessment form Please give your contact details and some info about your system fault. Type of faultPlease select your fault typeNo heat or hot water at allHave hot water but not heat (or heat but not hot water)Some radiators cold at top of radiatorSystem noisyRadiators heat up when I run hot waterOtherOther type of faultBriefly describe the fault it is not in the above list Check that your controller/timer is set up to be running at this time of day. Download a controller handbook for your system: [LINK] Has the boiler got any water pressure in it? Look at the control panel on the boiler. You may have to pull down a flap at the bottom of the boiler to see this. Is the black pointer on the pressure gauge in the green zone, or further round clockwise than the red pointer? Has the electricity supply to the boiler failed? Look at the control panel on the boiler. You may have to pull down a flap at the bottom of the boiler to see this. Is the display showing any information or lights? If it's not, you may have an electical problem. Your radiators may need air bled out of them If the top part of some of your radiators is cold, this means they have air trapped in them. The air floats to the top of the radiator preventing the hot water from filling it completely. You should be able to sort this out yourself if you have the right key for the radiator bleed valve. You can release the trapped air through the little square headed bleed screw at the top of each radiator. You should gently turn this screw anti-clockwise for a maximum of about half a turn using a radiator bleed valve key. Your landlord should have provided you with one of these.Hold a rag just below the valve to catch any water which may run out because this water may be rusty or black. Once the hissing air turns to a jet of water you can close the valve again by turning the screw clockwise. Here's a video showing how to do it: Check that your controller/timer is set up to be running at this time of day. Download a controller handbook for your system: [LINK] If you've checked that your thermostat and timer are working, then it's likely that the main valve or pump has failed. You'll have to contact us to book an appointment for one of our engineers to visit. If the radiators heat up when you run hot water, even though you have the thermostat or controller turned off, then you have a valve failure. You'll have to contact us to book a visit by one of our engineers.Noisy system If your heating system is suddenly making a grinding noise then the pump is probably failing. You'll need to contact us to book an appointment for a visit. However, if your system just intermittently bangs and gurgles you may have air trapped in it. This might be fixed by bleeding your radiators to remove any trapped air. You should be able to bleed them yourself if you have the right key for the radiator bleed valve. You can release the trapped air through the little square headed bleed screw at the top of each radiator.
